Wave is Coming!
There is a wave coming our way! It is estimated that there will be 3,000-5,000 lead pastoral transitions and resignations in the next 5-10 years (mostly coming from the Baby Boomers generation). If ever there was a time for churches to plan for the future, that time is now. Doug Clay and Ron McManus recently founded Legacy Transition Group to help churches make successful pastoral transitions. LTG has developed a team of experienced leaders to assist districts and local churches and can help walk with church boards or pulpit committees through a pastoral search.
You might be asking, “Why is it important to develop a transition plan?” A transition plan ensures that a church is getting help in a critical moment. The future of the church may depend on how well the handoff of the leadership baton goes. The transition may be from the pastor to a son or daughter (biological or spiritual), or to an existing staff member. It may involve a pastoral search. Many churches have made mistakes in the process, resulting in difficult problems. This is why help from trusted people who are experienced in the transition process is so useful. LTG is a resource to consider using.
