Black History Month celebrates Apostle Zinerva White Jr.

As we embark on the journey of Black History Month, we are reminded of the extraordinary contributions and legacies of African Americans throughout history. This month provides us with an invaluable opportunity to reflect on the profound impact of individuals who have paved the way for hope, encouragement, and Kingdom multiplication.

This year we invited members of our esteemed leadership team to share their reflections on a faith leader, of African American descent, who has profoundly inspired them to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ. These visionary leaders have not only dedicated their lives to spreading the gospel, but have also played a pivotal role in shaping the lives of those who lead the National Black Fellowship.

As we honor the rich tapestry of Black history and heritage, let us come together in celebration and admiration for the amazing faith leaders who continue to inspire us all!

"I first met him at the age of 13 when I became friends with his sons in middle school. At that time, he was known as Major White, a decorated army veteran who had received a Purple Heart and two Silver Stars.

When he was 46 years of age, he attended a church where God miraculously healed him of PTSD, a condition he had been dealing with for years after his military service to our nation. Around the same time, I was a 19-year-old college student-athlete. Unbeknownst to me, Major White was undergoing a shift into ministry. While I was experiencing the Lord's transformative power in my life, becoming a Christian after a series of life-changing events. Oddly enough, Major White would call me while I was at college to check on me and offer encouragement.

Upon returning home, he invited me and some friends to the church where he had his miraculous encounter. Over the years, our love for God deepened, and our roles in ministry began to take shape. I observed the hand of the Lord molding Major White into a spiritual father and General in the kingdom. His impact and investment in my life as a young Christian leader, a new husband, and a pastor starting out in ministry at age 31 have been invaluable.

Major White's tendency towards kingdom warfare and his desire for believers to embrace their roles in God’s plan for their lives are always at the forefront of his conversation. Today, at the age of 86, Apostle White is one of the most energetic, focused, and caring individuals one will ever meet. His reach for God’s kingdom spans the United States and around the globe.

His example and the influence of his kingdom DNA are often evident and obvious to those who know us both. His sons, in particular, have said to me, "You act a lot like our dad." I take that as a compliment.

Because of Apostle Zinerva White, I have found the inspiration to pursue ministry with excellence and unwavering determination. My thoughts would be incomplete without mentioning the support and love of his wife, Irma. The two of them have deposited invaluable treasures into the lives of my wife and me.  Our family is forever grateful!"- Gerard Ruff, NBF Treasurer
